While employment in Europe’s ICT sector is on the rise, the share of women in the workforce is decreasing. Women are estimated to be only 16% of the total and, as a response to this trend, the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition wants organisations to take action.
The European Commission has published a thematic call for organisations, collectives and companies that would like to pledge to bring attention to this situation and to foster new solutions. Pledgers can commit themselves to provide training activities dedicated to digital skills where women are in the limelight, to raise awareness about ICT opportunities available to women, to showcase female role models, or to scale up and re-skill women in ICT.
Scientix has, through the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) “Opening Minds to STEM Careers” also brought attention to careers and studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, by offering teachers online training and teaching materials on the subject.
